Judgement day
So judgement day, it came and went
David and Goliath oan that day squared up
Oor wee people against all who were sent
To disseminate lies on command from the top
‘You’ll need to make sacrifices’- Is this lent?
Perfidious plotting, as ever the empire, when will it stop
False promises of autonomy, hegemony and self rule
Made so late in the day, taking us for fools
Contemptuously committing to things they can’t deliver
Assuming we wouldn’t realise as we’re not very clever
Leaked stories about the health service being on its knees
Not so forthcoming with the McCrone report were you? Please!
Our licences paid for the lies on the telly
Our broadcasting corporation acting like Machiavelli
Circulating lies, and attempting to discredit
A progressive movement that will not die – don’t you get it?
The British establishment quaked in its boots
Shaking to its foundations, straight down to its roots
A set of demands, our rights as a nation
Our hope for the future filled them with trepidation
We called for a government that reflected our voting choices
For control of our destiny, including our resources
A dream to eradicate social need
Taking with it the cancerous corporate greed
We never signed up for a nuclear deterrent
Get rid of it now, we find it abhorrent
We revile the oppressors, and embrace the oppressed
We don’t support terrorists, not at your behest
Sending young men into war should be a last resort
Not to fill Tories pockets, you know the sort
Bevan will be anxiously turning in his grave
Your plans to sell off the health service, truly depraved
Societies vulnerable should receive appropriate care
Not be pushed toward the brink, towards humiliating despair
A nation where books are more important than bombs
Where we don’t need food banks, and we flourish, with aplomb
We marched to the polls that day in September
Only to have our hearts broken, it’s still raw, we still remember
They said it would be once in a generation
They said it with the utmost equivocation
But now material circumstances have changed
Dragged out of the European Union, are you deranged?
We won’t accept any further procrastination
Its time to secure the future of our proud nation
Your lies won’t work this time around
Freedom square will explode with the victorious sound
To Westmonster we can finally say our goodbyes
Stay strong, stay confident, make sure you vote Aye
The flight of the refugee
The decision weighs heavy on the heart
Fraught with uncertainty, a necessary sacrifice
Family, friends, memories, the essence of a soul left behind
A precarious life, only flight can preserve
Hoping one day to return, to reunite, to rekindle a stolen existence
Desperation becomes the sole driving force
Mortality watches over them, a petulant shadow
Staying guarantees their legacy will be consumed by misery
A zero sum game where few truly win
Huge metal coffins filled with human cargo
Commodities to be bought and sold
The salty taste of sweat permeates the finite air
No light can breach the impenetrable steel walls
An exhausted child whimpers, cold and hungry
No land of milk and honey awaits
Survival is all that matters
A land where they will be vilified
Scapegoated and blamed for all of society’s ills
Yet still they make the journey
Clinging desperately to existence
Hated and despised, but alive, and sentient, and hopeful
Seeking refuge in the land of their imperial masters
Prosperity rests upon an accident of birth
Fortune doesn’t favour the brave or the deserving
It rests within a coincidental twist of fate
A cruel lottery of discriminate chance seals their path
Not earned, or merited, or fair
Stop the boats they proclaim
Yet they pose no threat
Send them home they shout
Without empathy, or compassion for their plight
What about our people they ask
Without recognising borders are imaginary lines
Cruella Braverman
The worst home secretary I’ve seen in my life
A loathsome individual hell bent on causing strife
For those most vulnerable members of society
Compounding their problems by heightening their anxiety
Made it a lifes mission to take away our freedom of speech
Put the right to hold your own opinion tantalisingly out of reach
‘I’ll lay out the terms under which you can protest’
‘If your allowed to do it, it will be at my behest’
Determined to silence the population, and keep them in line
A Demagogue, and fascist, sending chills up your spine
Trying to have people arrested for saying from the River to the Sea
Get a grip of yourself, shut your mouth and let them be
A favourite target of hers, asylum seekers and migrants
Attacks their right to seek a better life, nothing more than a tyrant
Polarising and divisive, she’ll try to convince of their danger
Blame them for all of societies ills, try and stoke your anger
Argue they’re the reason there’s no money to spend on the problems of the country
Conjecture, and nonsense, and nothing more than baseless hearsay
The reason there’s no money to spend on the real problems
The reason they don’t make the slightest dent in trying to solve them
Is because she’s too caught up promoting increased spending on weapons
Can’t someone tell her we’re no at war? Can someone kindly step in?
There’s a special irony surrounding it that somehow people miss
The only reason that she’s here is because her parents sought asylum
Yet she somehow sees fit to criticise others and implicate them, how remiss!
A hypocrite of the highest order its beyond doubt and then some
Does she really understand the plight of a refugee?
If she did perhaps she’d leave them alone, leave them be
Surely there’s nothing wrong with trying to escape from warfare and strife
To give their children and families the chance of a better life
She’s recently turned her attention to the homeless on the streets
Tried to make their existence illegal, adding to her list of heinous feats
Perhaps if they put the infrastructure in place to give them proper homes
Perhaps then around freezing streets they wouldn’t have to roam
Her motivation has no basis in trying to be humane
She doesn’t want streets looking untidy, showcasing the nations shame
She’s went on an all out assault to decimate the rights of Palestinians
Her bias is incredible, trying to exclude them in a form that’s Darwinian
As if they should be excluded from existence by a process of natural selection
Promoting murder and genocide in the hope that it will win the Torys the next election
Describing marches aimed at achieving a ceasefire as predicated on hate
Whilst making inflammatory comments saying the genocide should not abate
She really is a horrible human being, if you can even describe her as that
Perhaps a sleight on the human race, so disgusting is her chat
Cruella is surely a far more appropriate label
For someone so intent on perpetuating lies and fables
Transcendental
Openly ridiculed for what is described as confusion
There is nothing acceptable about this blatant intrusion
Why do you care about what they think is authentic?
What has it got to do with you? Your comments are pathetic
Twenty years ago it was accepted as a normal act
To criticise homosexuals for their perversion of ‘normal facts’
Portraying them as deviants and threats to our youth
Without any substantive basis, without any modicum of truth
Now that society has finally accepted people who are gay
There is a new and obvious target for their misanthropic hate
They argue being transgender means someone has mental ill health
Ignoring the evidence, of which there is an abundant wealth
Why is it so hard to believe a woman can be born in a mans body?
Why do you care when it won’t affect your life in any way?
Standing on your soap boxes, belting out rhetoric that is demagogic
When if you pause, and have a think, why is it so oppositional to logic?
It is of course your right, to believe in an all powerful creator
To believe in an omnipotent, omnipresent world saviour
If he or she truly is the creator of everything
Shouldn’t we embrace and celebrate and sing?
When one of his or her creations deviates
We certainly shouldn’t ridicule, or bully, or berate
In a truly progressive society, where new discoveries are experimental
Trans rights, like any other basic human right, should be truly fundamental
So join us on a journey we hope turns out to be transcendental
Unless you’re on the right spouting hate, its not coincidental
That the same group of people who are trans and homophobe
Tend to be misogynistic racists, courting disharmony all across the globe
Smoke & Mirrors
We’re told we’re in the middle of a cost of living crisis, but don’t be fooled
Its been falsely manufactured by those who have for too long ruled
In reality it’s a crisis of profit for the big corporations
A gap that will need to be plugged by the most impoverished in the nation
We’re told we’re in the midst of an energy production crisis
Yet the big players are somehow increasing their profits, by thrice
Our energy bills have went up by more than double
Leaving the most vulnerable in the shit, in a whole lot of trouble
We’re told theres a need to cut public spending, a need to give and take
All the while the former chancellor is making tax submission mistakes
Worth almost four million, that’s a big mistake to make
Your nothing but a fraudster, a charlatan, a fake
Yet the prime minister does nothing, he turns the other cheek
Tries to distract you, hoping you’ll forget within the week
Lets talk about the Russians, that’ll keep them pacified
All the while they’ve hidden, and masked, and they’ve lied
Whilst what the Russians are doing is indubitably wrong
Our imperial past makes it feel hypocritical to be singing this song
Only today Israel has once again attacked Jenin
Something we’ve in the past witnessed and already seen
Yet we continue to send weapons, provide diplomatic support
Tell the public something different, disseminate false reports
The war in the Ukraine provides such a welcome distraction
From the public sector strikes at home, as they try to remove their traction
These are the same workers who kept us going during the pandemic
Yet their being demonised in a manner that’s truly systemic
It reflects a pattern that seems to keep the Tories afloat
They’ll run the country into the ground, blaming a vulnerable scapegoat
The time has come to see through their smoke and mirrors, don’t let them deceive
You know the truth in your heart, you know what to believe
Ode to the strikers
Don’t let what the papers or politicians say
Influence your opinion and make it sway
Don’t let the lies of the government
Make you believe the workers are greedy and full of want
The inalienable right to withdraw your labour
Is sacrosanct, and might prove the saviour
Of a class long made subservient to the elite
A right to protest and take their message to the street
Our nurses were lauded as heroes during a pandemic
We deny them a living wage, unjustly systemic
Our postal workers wage can barely sustain
Yet here they are treating them with disdain
Our railway drivers described as greedy
In reality their salaries make them needy
Our teachers work hard to educate our kids
Yet their pay ensures they stay on the skids
Now they’re trying to take away their basic human rights
To stop them being able to lawfully strike
To consign them to a status of modern slaves
Hoping they’ll be able to do it without them making waves
Back to the days of Thatcherism, a black stain on our history
They’re blatant in their intentions, its certainly not a mystery
Divide and conquer have always proven to be efficacious tactics
Turning the working class against each other with their subterfuge and semantics
Their proclamations are false, there is no need to be austere
They can afford to meet their rightful demands, and make the masses cheer
But they’d rather spend the money on weapons even though were not at war
Funding tyrants, war criminals and dictators abroad, of that you can be sure
To every striker taking a stand for what is just and what is right
We salute you, and support you as you continue with your fight
Keep faith in your unions and the power of collective bargaining
Victory will be yours, the day of reckoning is coming
